“Innovation Lights the Way”
A conversation with the muralists who will be painting the mural on the facade of our building at 704 Catharine st.
Artists Sammy Kovnat and Maria Roman pulled imagery, textures, and ideas from many different sources and sewed them together into one design, created in the style of collage. Their mural proposal celebrates what brings communities together: food, meeting places, and the common textural landscape through historical and scientific illustrations.
In honor of the inaugural 2020 Da Vinci Fest presented by PNC Arts Alive, celebrating the intersection of art and the sciences, Mural Arts Philadelphia hosted an exciting call for a new mural around the theme of "creativity is just connecting things".
After the first-ever digital community review and a grand voting process, the DVAA community and Philadelphia residents have decided to select Sammy Kovnat and Maria Roman to paint the new mural on the facade of our building at 704 Catharine St.
Their mural is titled "Innovation Lights the Way" and is a collaborative design combining imagery, textures, and ideas from many different sources and sewing them together into one design in the style of collage. Their mural celebrates what brings communities together: food, meeting places, and the common textural landscape through historical and scientific illustrations. The public is invited to attend a virtual conversation with the artists where they will be answering questions about the design, sharing their past artwork, and taking recommendations for the design.
This project is a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia, Da Vinci Art Alliance, Fleisher Art Memorial, and Bella Vista Neighbors Association and will be dedicated at the Da Vinci Fest in October 2020.
