About the exhibition:
"Transfigurations: The Intersection of Art and Music" is a collection of artworks by Lauren E. Cassidy which can be performed as music compositions. Designed specifically for physical space, these contemporary music pieces were written with a visual score in mind. Rather than remaining constrained to the typically linear nature of music, the works featured in "Transfigurations" can be performed in multiple directions simultaneously, on multiple instruments, and sound different every single time they are performed. Each piece features a unique set of performance instructions, often relying heavily on choices made by the performer in order for the work to come to life.
As a lifelong artist and musician, it is important to Cassidy to create visual and musical works which can be appreciated independently, but are best enjoyed in unison. Through her works, the artist explores themes of choice, death, and repetition through an interdisciplinary lens. Gallery visitors are able to listen to recordings and play along with the scores in person.
Transfigurations: The Intersection of Art and Music will be on view in Gallery 3 at Da Vinci Art Alliance December 5 - December 22. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 4-7 pm.
