Artist Statement:
Inspired by the esoteric, spiritual and philosophical ideologies of the 20th century, I’m driven to create work that unpacks the interpersonal and societal understanding of identity in all its forms. Through abstraction and surrealist imagery I investigate my relationship to the “outer world”, focusing on the physical body, sex, gender, etc. and my “inner-world”, mental health and spirituality. The maximalist nature of my work and the use of various materials reflects identity’s complex nature, as it is at once solid and stationary yet has the tendency to evolve over time.
