Elizabeth Zack
“A good leader listens and observes first, thinking about what the needs of a community or organization are, considering what could be done to meet those needs. A good leader involves people in a collective goal and helps them organize and collaborate.”
Elizabeth Zack has lived in Philadelphia since 1991 and raised two children here. In 2015 she founded 100 Women Philadelphia, an organization that uses a collective giving model to benefit local nonprofits. Now more than 160 civic-minded women meet four times a year to inspire and empower one another to make positive change in our city. So far the group has donated over $225,000 through different local organizations, helping hundreds of people. Elizabeth is an elementary school teacher at The Philadelphia School, although she has taught students from preschool through college, in public and private schools -- including education courses at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Giving back to the communities in which we live is of the utmost importance. Elizabeth volunteers at the Trinity Shelter for Men, at Broad Street Ministries, and as a reading and writing tutor for elementary school children.
What does leadership mean to you?
“Leadership means thoughtful guidance. A good leader listens and observes first, thinking about what the needs of a community or organization are, considering what could be done to meet those needs. A good leader involves people in a collective goal and helps them organize and collaborate towards the goal.”
How do you define creativity?
“Thinking differently.”
biography:
My name is Elizabeth Zack. I have lived in Philadelphia since 1991 and raised two children here. In the summer of 2015 I founded 100 Women Philadelphia, an organization that uses a collective giving model to benefit local nonprofits. We are now over 160 civic-minded women strong, who meet four times a year to inspire and empower one another to make positive change in our city. So far we have donated over $225,000, helping hundreds of people through different local organizations. I feel it’s important to give back to the communities in which we live. I am an elementary school teacher at The Philadelphia School. I have taught students from preschool through college, in public and private schools since 1992, including education courses at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. I volunteer at the Trinity Shelter for Men and at Broad Street Ministries, and also volunteer my time to tutor elementary school children with reading and writing.
