AN EXHIBITION by Daisy Diamond and Olivia Guarnieri

About the exhibition:

Daisy Diamond and Olivia Guarnieri present a two-person show titled “. . .” that explores the feeling of an ellipsis mark—a pause, a trailing thought, an undefined moment—from a variety of entry points, both formal and conceptual.

“. . .” is a quiet mark carrying an ambiguity that is central to both of their practices. For Olivia, it’s about how the meaning of this symbol relates to its visual presence. How such an outwardly minimal form can convey illegible depths. For Daisy, the materiality of repetition feels like a way to translate an abstracted memory into physical space. The shape of “. . .” acts as something infinite, void-like, and inviting of a non-verbal lingering with unknowns. Because Daisy and Olivia's works are so visually distinct from one another, they find that putting them in proximity is what creates a true ellipse-like moment, in which the resulting combination of qualities lacks immediate registers of familiarity. “. . .” leans into ambiguity and unfinishedness, rather than closing it off. Daisy and Olivia see their show as an opportunity to dwell in an unarticulated dimension of language, and a way to slow down the automatic perceptions and labels we so often give to our experiences. “. . .” acts as a sort of anti-label for the show’s contents.

Perennial Visions will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance December 5 - December 22. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 4-7 pm.

ABOUT THE ArtistS:

Daisy Diamond’s sculptures and paintings explore the relationships between objects, decay, and the subtleties of material memory. Informed by their study of the condition and care of material culture within the field of art conservation, Daisy creates visual objects that resist simple categorization and emphasize the accumulation of meaning over time. Daisy has exhibited work in Philadelphia at Vox Populi, Fleisher Art Memorial, and William Way LGBT Community Center. They have a BA in Art and Visual Culture from Bates College and are currently completing a MS in Art Conservation at the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation.

Olivia Guarnieri is a visual artist who received a BA from Vassar College in 2020, where she studied English, media studies, and studio art, and presented a senior thesis on object-oriented ontology. Since living in Philadelphia, Olivia has shown work in various gallery spaces including Vox Populi (Philadelphia, PA), Creative York (York, PA), CICA (Gimpo, KOR), dodomu gallery (virtual), and The Rest Gallery (Ithaca, NY). In 2023, she attended a residency at Arts Letters & Numbers, and completed a summer studio critique program at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. This summer, Olivia worked as a part-time archivist in Beacon, NY, and was a resident at Cornell’s Image Text Workshop. In 2025, she will be participating in a residency at the Da Vinci Art Alliance.
