Circadian
A 3rd FLOOR GALLERY POP-up
On View September 19 - September 26
Featuring
Julia E. Katz, Adina Segal, and Jessica Eldredge
About the exhibition:
We are an informal collective of mother-artist peers who have been visiting each other's studios for care, critique, and inspiration since 2019. Amidst global and personal crises, as well as the chaos of daily lives, we support each other to continue an artistic practice, a consistent and iterative rhythm of returning again and again to be present with possibility. Each of our work attempts to track cycles and capture moments in time. Through our respective mediums, light and shadow, negative and positive space, color, text, and imagery, we play with repetition and consider the dynamic and constant nature of change.
Circadian will be on view in Gallery 3 at Da Vinci Art Alliance from September 19 - September 26.
ABOUT THE FEATURED ARTISTS:
Artist and educator, Adina Segal, fell in love with photography in high school. After earning an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, her prolonged exposure photographs were exhibited at galleries across the country. In 2018, Adina started experimenting with watercolor and gouache. Working in a new medium enabled her to reset as an artist and access a beginner’s mindset. Although the medium is altogether different, she continues to seek a sense of wonder, the same kind of wonder that drew her to photography. Throughout her art, Adina explores realms outside of daily life, sensory spaces where there is room for the imagination to wander. Over the last several years, she has shown her paintings in and around Philadelphia, including a solo show at The Abington Art Center in 2023. Adina lives in Philadelphia with her husband and two sons.
Jessica Eldredge is an artist based in Old City Philadelphia. In addition to her studio practice, Jessica is a teaching artist who has worked throughout the region with organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Chester, NLArts, and Providence Animal Center. She is currently participating in the Fabric Workshop and Museum’s Apprentice Training Program and has a BA from Smith College as well as an MA from the Winterthur Program in Early American Material Culture.
Julia E. Katz is a West Philadelphia-based visual artist, facilitator, and mom. Her work explores the liminal space between what is and what will be, telling stories and amplifying individual and universal experiences of connection, healing, grief, pleasure, and rest. Julia facilitates cohorts and communities of practice in civic, educational, and family spaces with librarians, artists, organizers, and fellow queer parents. This work, and her experience of community throughout the pandemic inform her art. She is a contributor to the Artist Grief Deck, a Leeway Art and Change grantee, and has collaborated with Educators for Consent Culture, Shut Down Berks, and SpiralQ among many others. She has exhibited most recently at The Painted Bride, Vox Populi Gallery, and Main Line Art Center.
