Craft Lab is a chance for DVAA members and friends to gather for a couple hours each month and work on any and all artistic projects. Draw a picture, write a poem, sew, knit. Do what makes your creative soul happy. Share ideas and knowledge with fellow artist at DVAA!

For July Craft Lab, DVAA is thrilled to partner with Sammy Kovnat (SKOVeS) for a Mosaic Workshop. Sammy is one of the two artists who designed "Innovation Lights The Way" (2020) the mural on the side of DVAA’s building (check out more of Sammy's work by clicking here!) . Join us on July 8th from 6-8pm at Palumbo Park, where Sammy will lead participants in mosaicing over a 4" x 4" tile (provided by DVAA) that will become a part of a community art quilt. The completed project will be on view for Philadelphia’s city-wide CraftMonth in Palumbo Park this November, 2022.

Sammy often uses plates in her art practice, so we ask participants to bring a plate they feel comfortable breaking to use in their mosaic. All levels are welcome!! Registration for this event is required, so DVAA knows how much supplies to provide. Registration closes 7/6 at 2pm.

SKOVeS, or Sammy Kovnat, is an Internationally shown multimedia artist and muralist living and working in Philadelphia. They received their BFA in sculpture from Rowan University in 2016. SKOVeS has a deep rooted explorative passion for warmth, matriarchal systems, vulnerability, quiet, and emotional release.
