About:

Ash Fritzsche is a tradeswoman and artist living and working in West Philadelphia. An electrician by trade, Ash spends as much time as possible practicing lithography and painting. She is motivated by a love for process, science, the mystical and alternative narrative-making.

Artist Statement:

My work begins with a need to understand. I draw gears so I know how they work, I draw spaces so I know what they hold, I draw butterflies so I can understand their anatomy. Illustrating allows me to demystify the world around me and to understand my own relationship to it. In such, drawing becomes an act of love and dedication. I hope to create work that celebrates the beauty of the everyday while highlighting the sameness of our many systems, to show that the machinations of civilization are the same as those that rule our internal highways of synapses. I rely heavily on the processes of lithography, narrative-making and collage. My visual language is derived from my environments: from my work in the trades, from the queer spaces I inhabit, from my kitchen counter. I aspire to hold all things equally.
