Artist Statement:
My work is a response to the dizzying turbulence of our current moment and a search for underlying structure. I use an obsessive and quick notation to document my intimate spaces as they change through time. My current body of work is an exploration of the unseeable in the space I have been renovating and living in for the last six years. With oil painting, printmaking and wood whittling I create tentative maps of grief and belonging as well as talisman of gratitude.
My background in construction, specifically electrical construction, spills into my imagery via inordinate glows, impossible structures and jagged lines. I lean on color and harried mark-making to create an emotional tenor and drama. By erasing the lines between construction and destruction, the solid and the fleeting, and the domestic and the industrial, I make space for a highly personalized form of magic and chaotic reasoning to emerge: one that I hope to use to turn today’s cacophonous rattling into a future I can imagine.
