About:
Anna Hoppel is a visual artist, born and raised in Philadelphia. She is currently jointly attending PAFA and UPenn, pursuing a BFA in Painting with a minor in Illustration. She also co-owns a graphic design and social media marketing startup, Mixbie LLC. She is interested in visual imagery as a method of communication and storytelling and the relationship between fine arts and design.
Artist Statement:
“I work primarily in oil paint, as well as pastel and acrylic drawing. I utilize large-scale observational painting as a method of research and experimentation, as well as a way to share my lived experiences and connect with others. In my work, I explore the formal use of light as a method of defining and dividing space, the relationship between the figure and the cityscape, and the pressure exerted between interior and exterior worlds, both literally and with regards to the conscious and subconscious. Thematically, I focus on moments of isolation and tenderness within vast spaces, referring back to my travel experiences and personal relationships.”
