In Search of Something More
A DVAA Members Invitational in Gallery 1
Exhibition Runs: February 1st - February 19th
About the exhibition:
Each of us are searching for something more than what we have. We seek intimacy, order, wealth, health, and validation for ourselves and others. In Search of Something More highlights the process by which we search for our desires. When our imagined realities are stunted by economic, environmental, or interpersonal conflict, a need arises to search for alternatives. In the contradiction between imagined and current reality, a search thus inherently emerges. This exhibition shines a light on the importance of the act of searching and exposes the different avenues by which the search for more takes place.
The artworks do this in several ways – by appreciating moments of longing as seen in the work of Sandra Benhaim, Joseph Eggleston, Mary Powers Holt, Anna Hoppel, Basak Kilicbeyli, Maria Lindenfelder, Alfred Ortega, and Robert Zurer; by observing and documenting the effects of contemporary culture as seen in the works by Geoffery Agrons, Howard Brunner, Neill Catagay, David Heshmatpour, Brian Kelley, Andrea Krupp, Jay Roth, Eric Schaeffer, Lucy Shaiken, and Naisr Young; by depicting utopic landscapes as seen in the work of Robot Moysan, Joann Nuefeld, Eddy Rhenals-Narvez, Bobby Rosin, James Stewart, and Penelope Tsaltis-Lisk; by creating balance and order as seen in the works of Terri Fridkin, Drew Griffiths, Rob Lybeck, and Jihan Thomas; by reflecting on history and tradition as seen in the works by Sara Havkotte, Ona Kalstein, Virginia Maksymowicz, Henry Morales, and Sharon C Ostrow; by utilizing decoration and intricate processes as seen in the works of Danielle Corin Cartier, Maci Kociszewski, Nina Yocom, and Marcie Ziskind; by depicting absence as seen in the works of Nancy Gordon, Willard Johnson, Monica Kane, and Cheryl Levin; by intimately investigating the self as seen in the works of Sara Allen, Sarah Bloom, Krista Dedrick-Lai, and Karin Payne; and by illuminating the potential for transformation as seen in the works of Bernadette Colburn, Rosemary Luckett, Mike Pavol, and Penelope Tsaltas Lisk.
In Search of Something More will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance starting February 1st until February 19th. The opening reception will take place on Saturday February 4th, from 4-7pm.
