Solitude

Two-Person exhibit by Nancy Freeman Tabas and Marjie Lewis Quint @ Atria Center City

Exhibition Runs: March 24TH - MAy 18TH

About the exhibition:

The oil paintings of both Nancy Freeman Tabas and Marjie Lewis Quint show the beauty of solitude. Their artworks demonstrate that realism is not merely a literal copying of what we see, but an interpretive rendering of mood. Tabas' work is a painterly view of the natural landscape, empty and majestic. Quints' oils of isolated figures and lonely city scapes, reflect the illustrative style of the graphic artist she once was. Together their artworks explore the wonder and beauty of the world around them; personal psychological landscapes.

Solitude will be on view at Atria Center City beginning March 24th, and will be on view until May 18th. The exhibit will be on view in the Art Gallery on the 5th floor, which can be enjoyed by residents and staff.

About the artists:

Nancy Freeman Tabas is a professional visual artist from Haverford, Pennsylvania. Nancy began studying drawing, painting and sculpture in 1990. Tabas’s extensive education includes training at PAFA, Main Line Art Center and with world-renowned figurative artist Bert Silverman. Tabas has shown her work throughout the Philadelphia area. Nancy has enjoyed great success. She is in many private collections in the United States and Europe. Victoria Donohue reviewed Nancy in The Philadelphia Inquirer and stated, “Her work consistently has punch to it.” Marie Fowler of the Main Line Times also gave Nancy a wonderful review stating “Tabas, like French Impressionist Master Claude Monet appears to explore the same motif under different conditions of light and or seasons.”

Marjie Lewis Quint is a painter and graphic designer from Philadelphia, PA. She originally studied graphic design and worked in advertising for a number of years before devoting herself to exploring fine art. Marjie’s training and background as a graphic designer informs her art, most noticeably in the framing devices, canvas montages, and the juxtaposed imagery that she uses for contrast and rhythm. She is drawn to a mood that is both ambiguous and psychological. Marjie uses color and shape as a surrealistic design template. She works primarily in oil paints, a medium she prefer because of the richness of its colors and the flexibility it offers for experimentation. Marjie find herself drawn to strong color hues and contrasts to evoke mood. She also loves drawing and enjoys incorporating illustration in her paintings.
