Lucy Shaiken (b.1994) is a self-taught artist living and working in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been exhibited in the US and Canada. In 2021, Lucy was awarded an Illuminate the Arts Grant by the City of Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture & The Creative Economy.
Artist Statement:
“I consider all of my work to be self-portraiture. I paint myself, my home, and the people around me. My paintings take on the patina of my lived-in environment—the clutter, textures, warmth, and comfort of home.
This body of work was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, so there are ebbs and flows of anxiety, comfort, and safety. Ultimately, each painting is a love letter to my growth and the places I inhabit.”
