About:

Jay Roth is a mental health nurse practitioner, a married father of two young daughters, and a photographer in Philadelphia. His work has been shown in numerous museums and exhibitions, most recently at the Noyes Museum of Art in New Jersey. He uses photography to explore entitlement and exclusion in multiple contexts. Whether exploring national identity, commercial consumption, or mental health and trauma, he is drawn to images that reflect how the meaning of objects change over time. His most recent projects, On Healthcare and Abandonment and Pandemic Blues, shed new light on the COVID-19 pandemic in the day-to-day contexts of his mental healthcare practice and help him process the crisis. At the height of the pandemic, he worked in nursing homes where up to 90% of patients tested positive and 20% to 30% died.
