What did you consider to be genius as a child?
“My viewpoint has changed dramatically from childhood. I was blessed to be a straight-A student. Studying and test-taking just came more naturally to me. I had parents who were adamant about maintaining high grades because they wanted the best opportunities for me as an adult. So, as a child, I definitely affiliated "genius" with book smarts and a high IQ. However, a turning point arose when both my brother and I took IQ tests and had identical scores, and both were within the "genius" threshold. My brother was left-handed dyslexic and struggled with grammar and writing. He did well with numbers, but even more so, he had an unbelievably natural artistic talent. Learning that we scored the same on the IQ test opened up my young mind as to what constitutes a genius. Creativity, open-mindedness, ease of self-expression, and a different way to process and see the world are all attributes of genius. I was certainly more rigid and "by the book" as compared with my brother, and only years later would I learn to be more comfortable expressing myself and thinking outside of the box.”
What does leadership mean to you?
“Leadership is not just teaching, but doing. It's listening more than speaking. It's understanding how to bring out the best in people. It's motivating others and helping them find purpose. It's the ability to incite passion and drive within others, enough so that they truly believe in your mission and make it their own. It's guiding people so that they can enjoy the same or even greater success than your own one day. It's putting the team and the greater good before yourself.”
Biography:
I am a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia and currently serve the community as a Realtor® with Coldwell Banker Preferred in Old City. Previously, I worked in property management for high-end condominiums and luxury apartment buildings. I graduated summa cum laude in 2008 from Cabrini College with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology. As an avid art lover and collector, I learned of the DVAA by following a local artist who had reserved the space for an exhibition. After several more visits, I fell in love with the charming gallery and it's members, so it was only logical to join the board in 2018. As a realtor, I often find a deep connection between home and art. One's home is typically where they are most comfortable expressing themselves, and I love to help people find the right space to match their unique personality. I enjoy spending much of my free time inside my own home with loving boyfriend, Jason, and two cats, Jasper and Jezebel. I am also a self-proclaimed at-home chef and foodie, so I love to explore and support restaurants and bars throughout the city. Last but not least, I love networking and meeting new people!
