The Soul at Work

About the program:

Critical Theory Discourse is a conversational gathering that allows DVAA members to tackle challenging works of art theory and history together. Each month, we discuss a new topic based on a new reading, podcast, or video that is distributed by DVAA in advance of the program. Critical Theory is meant to foster challenging dialogue about the art world and its context. All DVAA Members are welcome!

About this event:

At this month’s Critical Theory, we will be discussing The Soul at Work by Franco Berardi.

“Capital has managed to overcome the dualism of body and soul by establishing a workforce in which everything we mean by the Soul--language, creativity, affects--is mobilized for its own benefit. Industrial production put to work bodies, muscles, and arms. Now, in the sphere of digital technology and cyberculture, exploitation involves the mind, language, and emotions in order to generate value--while our bodies disappear in front of our computer screens.”

How to Participate:

Due to enforced social distancing, Critical Theory is going digital! To maintain the safety of our Members and staff, we will be hosting a ZOOM conference instead of an in-person discussion.

To participate in the digital program: register for the event, read the text, and then join the discussion on ZOOM!
