About the exhibition:

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is a solo exhibition of mixed media paintings by DVAA member, Rosalind Bloom. Her exhibition highlights the history of racism as it relates to the building of communities in Philadelphia. Through this exhibition, viewers are invited to think about how the issues surrounding housing equity have changed and been reframed over the years.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor will be on view in Gallery 2 at Da Vinci Art Alliance starting May 2 until March 19. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 4-7 pm.

The Roundtable Discussion Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Levittown, Folcroft, Whitman Park, Mt. Airy, a conversation about race, economic status, and where people can live, will take place on May 11, from 12-2pm.

ABOUT THE Artist:

Rosalind Bloom was born and raised in NYC. She attended what was then the High School of Music and Art, graduated with honors from the City College of NY and received an MA in Art History from Columbia University. Relocating to the Philadelphia area, Bloom taught art history at Rosemont College and Villanova University and earned a four-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She currently works in her home studio in Narberth, Pennsylvania.

Rosalind has exhibited widely: solo shows at the Art Alliance of Philadelphia, Conant Gallery, Princeton, the Da Vinci Art Alliance, Rosemont College, Villanova University, the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, and Zone One Gallery, Philadelphia; and group shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg, Woodmere Art Museum, The Delaware Art Museum, the Berman Museum at Ursinus College, the Borowsky Gallery, Fleisher Art Memorial, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Stedman Gallery at Rutgers University, the Henry Gallery at Penn State Great Valley, West Chester University, Widener University, Hicks Art Center at Bucks Co. Community College,  Holy Family University, Delaware County Community College, Da Vinci Art Alliance, Main Line Art Center, Wayne Art Center, Community Art Center, Wallingford, PA, Goggleworks,  Reading, PA, Sandy Springs Museum, MD, and Bellevue Art Museum, Washington.

Rosalind has been an artist in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. Her work is on the cover of Contemporary Poets, Chelsea House Press, is in Quotable Women, from the Running Press, and has provided cover art for Philadelphia Stories Magazine. She is an active member of the Women’s Caucus for Art and DaVinci Art Alliance, Philadelphia.
