About the exhibition:

It is often said that we can “revisit” a memory. Is that because a memory amounts to a place? In “Reconstructed Places,” a solo exhibition of cutout collage, artist Alicia Finger invites viewers to visit these very places—defined as much by what they contain as what’s no longer there.

“This series of work explores the role of place as inspiration and the evolution of memory as a deeply intimate experience,” Finger says of the exhibition. “I want to celebrate the importance of our experiences, the impact of place, and how our memories evolve with time.”

Deeply experimental, Finger’s process plays with the reemergence of memories after a place evolves throughout time or by human interference. She manipulates materials through the use of cutting, reorganizing, or concealing to reconstruct a fresh layer and bring forth a new experience.

Reconstructed Places will be on view in Gallery 2 at Da Vinci Art Alliance from March 4th to March 22nd. An accompanying workshop, Collage and the Creative Process, will take place on Sunday, March 8th from 12—2pm.

about the artist:

Alicia Finger is a Philadelphia-based artist whose work focuses on the process of deconstructing and assembling. Finger received her BFA from Arcadia University with a concentration in oil painting and her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She began experimenting with cut paper and installation while receiving her MFA. These experimentations have evolved into newer works that focus on merging the act of cutting paper and collage with her background in painting. Finger is currently an Instructor and Coordinator of Color and Design and Color Theory at Rowan University. She is a member of the Philadelphia Collage Works artist collective and DaVinci Art Alliance.
