January 31st, 2021 - 2pm
About the exhibition:
Parallels is an exhibition of paintings by artists Colleen Hammond and Nancy Alter that offer a new perspective. Instead of focusing their sights ahead, these artists find inspiration in the opposing views of the clouds above and concrete below. Parallels will be on view physically by-appointment January 28th - February 14th 2021 at Da Vinci Art Alliance and as a recorded video tour on the Da Vinci Art Alliance website.
As the pace of our lives is sped up by modern electronic devices, we often miss out on the subtle beauty of our surroundings. Colleen Hammond and Nancy Alter create expressive renderings of pavement and skyscapes that illustrate the tone, value, and texture of these ever-changing subjects. Using photographs as their models, the artists present new perspectives on the objects we overlook everyday.
Alter’s renderings of heavy, hard pavement contrast Hammond’s soft clouds with focused composition and striking technique. The two artists use oil and brush to capture the significance of our Earth’s parallel planes.
