About:
Kate Welbes is an Artist, Educator & Healer whose practice centers the abolition of systems of domination through collaborative truthtelling, re-membering, and home-building. Their work takes shape through workshops, gatherings, public art, poetry + spoken word, fashion design + performance, experimental film, and curation, mainly within public and youth-led spaces. Being a Transracial Domestic Adoptee, they’re invested in creating space with folks impacted by the US Adoption Industry and the Child Welfare System, working towards abolishing all family policing systems. They are forever exploring and connecting to motherhood, self-parenting, non-verbal memory and trauma, the belly and the womb, the inbetween-ness of being adopted, grief, anger, displacement (spiritually, ancestrally, by land, within community, bodily, ect.), and belonging —channeling the interdependence of our liberation and our right to return home.
