About:
Jayana China was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She currently still resides in Philadelphia. Her love for art started at a very young age, as she gained inspiration from her aunt. Her aunt taught her many different art techniques and takeaways, which devoted her to wanting to become an artist. She recently received her B.S. degree in Visual Arts from Lincoln University. Her works consist of paintings as her main medium, such as acrylic, watercolor, and oil, but she also creates other works using ceramics and mixed media. As she creates art, many of the subjects she paints are African Americans. Each painting that China makes involving African Americans tends not to show the negative pains of what they have been through. But to paint them in a way that expresses their beauty, excellence, love, and passion.
Regarding her artwork, she focuses on painting topics that she tends to enjoy or wants to express through her perspective, such as video games, anime, books, history, and inspiration from family and friends. Her influences come from art movements, especially the Harlem Renaissance, the Black Arts Movement, and Impressionism. China’s work has been recently exhibited at Lincoln University’s Student Senior Thesis Exhibition Part 1 “Interwined (Divergent)” in Amos Hall Gallery. Her work has been included in Lincoln University’s Student Exhibition “The Palette: The Visionaries of Lincoln” in Amos Hall Gallery (2024), Lincoln University’s Undergraduate Research Symposium (2024), Lincoln University’s Faculty and Student Exhibition in Amos Hall Gallery (2023), Lincoln University’s SIMBAA Magazine from 2021 to the present, Temple University’s Art Start Program (2019), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) Art Internship (2019).
