Friendly Confines
A SOLO EXHIBITION BY ALEXANDRIA NAZAR
Exhibition Runs: April 29 - July 29
Opening + Artist Talk: Sunday, May 3 from 2:30 - 3:30pm at Atria Center City
About the exhibition:
The works in Friendly Confines investigate rituals and relationships created while playing baseball, particularly focusing on how men relate to one another within environments traditionally coded as masculine. Drawing from the lineage of humanist and feminist portraiture, this exhibition examines the psychology of those rituals and relationships and seeks to represent the moments with frankness and attention to the players' emotional reality. The paintings document different allowable relationship dynamics and offer an alternative perspective on male intimacy while acknowledging the weight of gendered performance. They explore acceptable instances of physical touch, the ways proximity can replace speech, and the subtle tensions that give rise to tenderness.
