Color, Memory, Place
a duo exhibition by Donald Crowl and Jeanne Kohl
Exhibition Runs October 21st - January 20th
Opening Reception & Artist Talk Saturday, October 24th from 2:30 - 3:30 PM at Atria Center City
About the exhibition:
In “Color, Memory, Place,” Donald Crowl and Jeanne Kohl investigate and notate moments of time through the use of color and layering to reflect the environments surrounding them. While Kohl reminisces upon summers spent alongside friends in Scotland, Crowl reflects upon moments spent in solitude on farmlands in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Kohl layers watercolor and ink to recount her experiences and self in a place where she feels loved. Crowl adds and subtracts paint and crayon to his canvases to mimic his view of the repetitive tiling of farmland year after year. Although they both study different places in their works, Crowl and Kohl each establish a sense of grounding in their surroundings and call out to viewers to contemplate their own memories of passing moments of both solitude and kinship through these scenes.
"Each color lives by its mysterious life." - Kandinsky
