About the Exhibition:

The Exhibition Bootcamp Workshop seeks to extend the artistic process into curation and exhibition planning. Four artists (Karin Payne, Lucy Shaiken, Krishna Desai & Richard King) came together for two consecutive weekends of discussions, collaboration, and hands-on installation. Through this time together, they built their understanding and skills in the complexities of exhibit design, but more importantly developed an appreciation for their fellow artists and the qualities and motivations within each artistic practice. “Circumstances” is the result of their time together.

The group developed ways to build an exhibition experience from the work itself, offering a conversation among the numerous pieces they brought together. An elaborate process of conversation and testing relationships with pieces on a single wall eventually grew to encompass the entire room. They arrived at a balanced approach, allowing the works to speak to each other while offering space for each piece to express its own voice. This intuitive and organic endeavor offered a supportive space for the artists to learn from each other and how their work might support the larger whole of a collective art experience.

Circumstances by Karin Payne, Lucy Shaiken, Krishna Desai & Richard King will be on view on the 3rd floor gallery of DVAA until December 18th.
