What is World Collage Day?
World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. Initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018, artists and art venues are invited to hold events on that day to celebrate collage.
World Collage Day + CraftLab at DVAA!
DVAA will be celebrating World Collage Day in partnership with Philadelphia CollageWorks on Friday, May 13th from 4-7pm in lieu of our monthly program, CraftLab. During the event, participants will be helping to create a Community Collage Quilt. The Collage Quilt will be the product of the collaboration with adults and children from the community and Philadelphia CollageWorks artists Annie Stone, Colleen Hammond, Sue Apter, Deena Flanagan and Sharon Ostrow.
Pre-cut 5 inch squares will be provided along with collage materials and other supplies for all to use and share. A collection of assorted periodicals, scrap paper, buttons and other ephemera will be at everyone’s disposal to make their very own unique collage. As each 5 inch square is completed, they will be attached, using colorful map pins, to large sheets of foam board in order to construct our WCD community Collage Quilt. Participants may also make a collage quilt square to keep or take along a few items to make one at home.
