Participants will explore their own histories and experiment with cell phone audio recording techniques to begin their own oral history projects.
The beginning of the workshop will focus on discussion and learning, including a tutorial on audio recording using an iPhone and Android. Participants will then briefly explore the environment surrounding DVAA, with a choice to go on a brief sound walk or stay and explore DVAA’s garden space.
Participants are encouraged to listen to their environment and record inspirational or interesting sounds during the sound walk. After a reconvening and any technical troubleshooting, a closing discussion opens space for mutual listening and inspiration. Participants are encouraged to submit their sounds to OBW’s community archive.
As part of Corresponding Exhibition: Of Black Wombhood
