A Plurality of Art Worlds
About the program:
Critical Theory Discourse is a conversational gathering that allows DVAA members to tackle challenging works of art theory and history together. Each month, we discuss a new topic based on a new reading, podcast, or video that is distributed by DVAA in advance of the program. Critical Theory is meant to foster challenging dialogue about the art world and its context. All DVAA Members are welcome!
About this event:
( INDEX ( MODEL ( POSSIBLE ART WORLDS))) essay by Kelsey Halliday Johnson
Published, Title Magazine, April 2019
In this essay Johnson looks back at the conceptual art collective Art & Language’s Rolodex with 188 collaged typescript cards,1970. Seeking to disrupt the dynamic of who holds power within the art world, Rolodex with 188 collaged typescript cards was ahead of its time. This work was itself a call for expanding the scope of creative production to better represent a growing counter narrative within artistic communities that resisted the established art market.
