Contemporary Art & Dada

About the program:

Critical Theory Discourse is a conversational gathering that allows DVAA members to tackle challenging works of art theory and history together. Each month, we discuss a new topic based on a new reading, podcast, or video that is distributed by DVAA in advance of the program. Critical Theory is meant to foster challenging dialogue about the art world and its context. All DVAA Members are welcome!

About this event:

At this month’s Critical Theory, we will be discussing Contemporary Art & Dada using two readings: From Dada to Neo-Dada and Back Again by Helen Molesworth and Contemp(t)orary: Eleven Theses by Cuauhémoc Medina. These readings examine the intertwined nature of art and capitalism and one of many movements that sought to separate the two, Dada. The legacy of Dada artists to question the role, stability, nature, and necessity of artistic labor remains vitally important even today.

Due to enforced social distancing, Critical Theory is going digital! To maintain the safety of our Members and staff, we will be hosting a ZOOM conference instead of an in-person discussion.
