About:
Andromeda Cook is a Philadelphia based visual artist, educator, and founder of Andromeda Cook Studio. Her work explores themes of faith, healing, identity, and self expression through color, symbolism, and storytelling.
Cook creates original paintings, murals, and community collaborative art projects that invite reflection and connection. Her artwork has been displayed in galleries and community spaces across Philadelphia, including Penn Medicine Hospital and the October Art Gallery, where several of her paintings are currently on display.
She has contributed to public art projects through Mural Arts Philadelphia as an assistant artist on a mural project connected to the Our Market initiative led by Michelle Ortiz. In addition, Cook designs and leads collaborative mural projects where community members participate in creating large scale works she develops and directs.
Cook previously worked as an elementary school writing literacy and visual arts teacher and continues to teach through classes, workshops, and community programs. She has led educational programs such as the SMART Girls 12 week African American history and art program, teaches classes at the October Art Gallery, and creates art lessons and creative learning activities through her website.
Through her artwork and teaching, she encourages people of all ages to explore creativity, reflect, and reconnect with their purpose.
Artist Statement:
My work is rooted in faith, reflection, and the belief that creativity has the power to heal. Through painting, color, symbolism, and storytelling, I create artwork that invites people to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the purpose placed within them.
Art became a refuge for me during one of the most challenging seasons of my life. What began as a personal outlet grew into a deeper calling to create work that encourages healing, self expression, and spiritual reflection.
My practice includes paintings, murals, and collaborative art experiences that bring people together through creativity. I also develop art lessons and creative learning activities that introduce students and communities to influential artists and the power of visual storytelling.
Through Andromeda Cook Studio, my goal is to create work that inspires people of all ages to reflect, explore their creativity, and recognize the value of their own voice and story.
