About:

Akhil Pramanik is a Philadelphia-based painter whose work blends abstraction with figuration to capture the emotional complexity of modern life. Drawing inspiration from artists like Cecily Brown, George Condo, and Basquiat, he layers color, form, and gesture to create images that oscillate between chaos and clarity. A graduate of Temple University’s Fox School of Business, Akhil approaches painting with both an analytical and deeply personal lens, channeling experiences, music, and memory into his evolving body of work. His paintings have been featured in both academic and community exhibitions, and his practice is rooted in constant experimentation with texture, rhythm, and narrative.

Artist Statement:

My paintings explore the tension between abstraction and representation, searching for the point where emotion overwhelms clarity but meaning still lingers. I often begin with quick, expressive sketches—sometimes sourced from my Notes app portraits—before layering oil paint into compositions that feel both intimate and raw. Each piece is a negotiation between control and spontaneity, reflecting how human experiences are layered, messy, and open to interpretation. I am drawn to painting as a way to externalize memory and feeling, to create a visual language that captures the energy of life in motion. Through fragmented figures, shifting forms, and bold gestures, I aim to invite viewers into a space that is at once familiar and unfamiliar—something like recognizing yourself in a dream. For me, painting is not about resolving images but about letting them breathe, fracture, and resonate in ways words cannot.
