About:
Abbey Lakey was born and raised in Tennessee. She is an interdisciplinary artist now living and working in Philadelphia, PA. She received a BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. With a background in painting, Abbey is always exploring how to communicate with new mediums. She primarily works in tandem with the collective imagination that can be found on the city streets. She works in conversation with the accidental artist that leaves their work to be found on every corner of the sidewalk. Documenting found objects and deeming them sculptures, she allows the conversation to continue in the studio in the form of painting, drawing, sculpture, video, or book form; often somewhere in between.
Artist Statement:
Abstraction, figuration and the presence of touch are the basis of my work. I am constantly responding to my environment, whether that be documenting, interpreting or reimagining and the visual connections found in every day life. I am constantly attempting to capture my own ever-changing relationship with time, space, my surroundings and my body.
