I retired recently from Temple University as the Thomas Durant Professor Emeritus after 45 years an infectious diseases specialist. I grew up in a family that valued making art and have painted since early childhood. Painting has been and remains an essential part of my life.

Artist Statement:

“I am a doctor and a painter. Painting for me is not a hobby, but rather a calling equal to my calling to medicine. Typically, I paint with acrylics on paper using geometric forms as a kind of vocabulary. I usually paint in series; you can think of my paintings as equivalent to musical variations on a theme. My work has been described as ‘optical music’.”
