About:

I was born in 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia and I grew up in Philadelphia. In 1980 I began drawing and painting on my own. I'm a self-taught artist and have exhibited and sold my paintings at venues in and around Philadelphia (Off the Wall Gallery at Dirty Frank's, Community College of Philadelphia, Manayunk Art Center, Black Cat Tavern on 12th Street, Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum, and other local art venues). My work has appeared in several issues of Outsider Art Magazine and in Issue 23 of World Wide Art Magazine. My paintings are also in private collections in places such as Chicago, London, Kingston (NY), Philadelphia, El Cerrito (CA).

Artist Statement:

I begin a painting with an image in mind of what I'd like it to look like, but this image changes -- unforeseen brush strokes occur -- as the painting takes shape and I apply paint to the canvas-paper surface. The final image usually expresses cartoonish distortion and agitated brushwork. My paintings aren't realistic but they're not fantastical either. They're paintings done by an observant, imaginative person who is a bit frightened.
