Peculiar Portraits

a Solo exhibition by Charlie Welch @ Atria Center City

Exhibition Runs: September 7th - November 2nd

About the Exhibition:

Charlie’s portraits made up of only plants, sometimes bounded by string or tape, and striking colored backgrounds animate personality into the otherwise inanimate. Initially this series was inspired by forcing change in our lives to make them more appealing but turned into something new. These bindings, the focal point of the works, now act as what makes the usual, the mundane, and the obvious, unique.

About the Artist:

Charlie Welch’s experience from commercial work comes into play with his fine art. Photography is his main medium, but he also incorporates sculpture and collage. Constructed environments and playful sets are signatures of his work. Charlie conveys narratives about identity formation, public and private selves, and how we navigate through daily life through his art.
