Paulo Correa-Meyer

About:

Paulo Corrêa-Meyer is an emerging digital artist who lives and works in Wayne,Pennsylvania. A native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, he creates art that reflects what isgoing on around him, choosing designs and colors to reflect his feelings at the time. From abstracts to natural forms, his bold compositions are an emotional expression that he hopes evoke feelings in all who view his work.

As an adolescent, CorrêaMeyer was first drawn to poetry as a means of communicating his moods and mindsets. He would eventually publish two books of poems in his native Portuguese language (and is currently collecting material for a third).

Corrêa-Meyer was educated to become a physician and began practicingOphthalmology in Brazil. Then, in 1980, he moved his young family to theUnited States and established a solo practice. During the two years that itwould take for the revalidation of his medical license to practice in the US,he attended a semester at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. That ledhim to experiment with oil paint and printer's rolls as he created art oncanvas. The resulting works showed multiple serendipitous effects thatwere elicited by his poetic thinking while painting. The images capturedthe movement, the rhythm, the energy, and the colors of his native country.

Following his retirement in 2020, Corrêa-Meyer searched for a medium thatwould provide more flexibility with form, movement, and color and allow himto craft images that evoke an immediate reaction. Although he uses his artto chronicle current events, he likes to interject humor when it isappropriate. He settled on digital art as his means of self-expression and, along with his poetry, Corrêa-Meyer creates moments that tell his story andshare his experiences.

Artist Statement:

As a digital artist I find the flexibility with form, movement, and color allows me to craft images that evoke an immediate reaction/gut feeling which, in many cases, would prescind a title. I also like to interject humor into my art or use my paintings as chroniclers of recent events. Often I am inspired by the world around me, unexpected events or situations that impact the earth. The to ability to share my works with a larger audience excites me. I have pieces featured in a variety of online and in-person juried shows and exhibits, including
