About:

Jude Lang holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. A native New Yorker, she has lived in and worked as an Art Director/Graphic Designer in New York City, New Haven CT, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. She balances an active studio practice with an on-going design business, exploring how they nourish and sustain each other.

Artist Statement:

Jude Lang makes paintings and drawings. It insists on making the experiences of women and children; motherhood, childhood; growth and development— interesting, provoking and complex. Flicking between awareness and memory it makes a rupture that shifts the images between fiction and life.
The paintings use images from communal and personal stories, distilled and frozen out of their narratives. They use everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are moments that went unnoticed. Resonant through shared cultural narratives, when extracted and apart, they carry energy in their awkwardness.
“…the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”
