Channelled

An art installation by Ava haitz on the 3rd floor gallery

installation Runs: January 11th - January 22nd

About the INstallation:

As the digital realm continues to evolve and old technology becomes irrelevant, these once powerful tools for channeling information are left behind. What becomes of these objects? I am interested in the line between the ephemeral nature of video art and its lasting impacts on the conscious and material planes. As well as the line between digital and tactile, new age and tradition within the art world.

This piece examines projection and video as fine art mediums. Projection as a painting made with light. The video is a stop-motion animation- one scene is oil paint on plexiglass, another is charcoal on paper.  They act as a moving drawing or painting. Through editing, projecting onto sculptures, and fragmenting the light with old projector slides, I have distorted the original drawing. Much like the way information in the digital becomes distorted more and more overtime until it becomes something completely other. Or the way art and ideas continue to evolve through new ways of making and existing in our ever-changing world.

Channelled will be on view in 3rd Floor Gallery space at Da Vinci Art Alliance starting January 11th until January 22nd. The opening reception will take place on Saturday January 14th, from 4-7pm.

About the Artist:

Ava Haitz is a multi-media artist and educator who creates immersive experiences through drawing, video, and installation. Their work is meant to challenge the way art is traditionally experienced by incorporating touch, texture, color, play, and interaction from viewers. They are interested in blurring the space between naivety and fine art, the digital with the tactile. With a strong background in drawing, elements of illustration are at the core of their practice and influence the way they engage with other materials.
