About:

Vicente Ortiz Cortez is a queer Mexican artist based in Philadelphia, PA. His work addresses themes of sexuality and identity, informed by his upbringing in the macho culture of rural Mexico. He has exhibited at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art (CICA) Museum in Gyeonggi, South Korea, Extra Art Gallery in Cairo, Egypt, and at the Palazzo dei Cartelloni in Florence, Italy, among others, with an upcoming solo exhibition at The Beach Museum in Alagoas, Brazil. He is a recipient of the 2019 Highly Commended Award from Red Line Art Works, a non-profit arts organization based in Bath, United Kingdom. Other awards include a juried exhibition Merit Award by The Nation’s art critic Barry Schwabsky, the Margaret Giffen Schoenfelder Memorial Award, and the Stefan J. S. Levine Endowment Award. He is a Gallery Committee member and exhibitions organizer at the University City Arts League. Ortiz Cortez received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Pennsylvania State University, and also attended Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, Italy.
